Petrol soars to $1.74 as South Australians warned to brace for price hike

South Australian drivers are being urged to shop around for petrol ahead of an expected price hike.

Drivers spotted a service station at Parafield Gardens with prices as high as $1.74, while the RAA says other retailers have hit $1.72.

Those willing to shop around can still save, with prices as low as $1.29 per litre at Mount Barker and Richmond.

The RAA has called yet again on the government to better regulate petrol prices, after its annual survey put the average weekly cost in 2019 at about $228, up from $218 last year.

The organisation blames rising fuel prices on the increased cost.
