A man accused of armed robbery at a Lismore gas station has appeared in court.
Kieren George Cotton, 27, was arrested Saturday at the muzzle on Brewster Street on suspicion of robbery at the Liberty Service Station on Barina Road.
Mr Cotton appeared in the Lismore District Court on Monday via a video link from custody.
Police allege that they were called to a service station on Saturday at around 2:50 am following reports of the robbery.
They would claim that Mr. Cotton went into the store, made a gun, and threatened the staff.
He is said to have told a 19-year-old employee to give him cash.
Police launched an investigation, arrested Mr. Cotton, who claimed to be in line with the criminal’s explanation, and tried to board a taxi.
He was taken to the Lismore police station and charged with robbery while armed with dangerous weapons and robbery while armed with aggressive weapons.
Attorney Natasha Wood did not file a petition on his behalf and did not apply for bail.
“There are no release applications today,” Wood said.
“Mr. Cotton has an application for transformational rehabilitation that has already been submitted.”
The court heard that her client was likely to apply for bail when she was accepted for rehab.
Ms. Wood urged the court to note that her client was at risk of self-harm and emphasized that she had not had access to drugs for her mental health since her arrest.
A brief description of the evidence will be submitted by December 14, and Mr. Cotton will return to court two days later.
The court heard that Mr. Cotton had been released on bail on another charge at the time of the alleged robbery, which was formally revoked.
